WUKF BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS - 9TH-10TH MARCH, 2024

Huge congratulations to golden girls Niamh, Sarah & Lucy who are current World Team Champions,  European Team Champions and at this event became the British Team Champions!  A fantastic achievement showing great consistency & dedication.  These girls also took a clean sweep in the 18-20 Sanbon category at this event, Niamh first place, Sarah second place and Lucy third place - doesn't get any better than that!  

 

Congratulations also to Alicia who became 13 year old Sanbon Champion, great achievement.  Well done to Jenna who won silver in the age 11-12 year section.  Well done to all the competitors, it was a very high standard of competition.

WUKF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS - ANTIBES, FRANCE 15TH-19TH NOVEMBER 2023

As part of the SKU, Saltire competed at this event.  It was an enjoyable trip and lots of medals won.  We have several european medalists & Champions!  Some photos of our time away below

 

TKA KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, DUNFERMLINE  - 28TH OCTOBER, 2023

As part of the SKU, Saltire competed at this event.  Delighted that for all members who did so well.  Special mention to Aidan Mullen who won best fighter overall for his age section, well done Aidan!

 

B.A.S.K OPEN, LONDON - 8TH OCTOBER, 2023

Huge Congratulations to Sensei Niamh who was a Double Gold Medalist at this event!  Leading by example 

 

KANZEN CUP, REGIONAL PERFORMANCE CENTRE, DUNDEE - 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2023

As part of SKU we had a very successful local competition.  Well done to everyone on their performances.  Great end to the competition with the Boys & Girls Teams winning Gold.

 

GB OPEN, BIRMINGHAM - 9TH & 10TH SEPTEMBER & 4 NATIONS CUP, DUBLIN - 16TH SEPTEMBER

Very proud of our squad who competed at the GB Open in Birmingham.  Huge congratulations to all those that medalled.  We have several GB Champions including David Carter, Ashley Carter, Niamh Conway, Craig McDonald & Jenna Dailly!

 

A small squad travelled to Dublin the following weekend to compete at the 4 Nations Cup.  Congratulations to Lucy Stoves & Eve McNaughton winning gold & becoming 4 Nations Champions.  Well done to Sensei Niamh Conway who led the girls team to a silver & Sarah Brand for a fantastic silver in the Ippon section.  Also well done to Grace who fought well over the weekend, your time will come.

SKU SQUAD TRAINING & WILDSHORE TRIP 2/9/23

We had a great session with the SKU on Saturday 2nd September.  It was the first time since the World Championships we had met up and everyone worked hard in preparation for the events coming up.  The session was followed by a trip to Wildshore in Dundee for some fun & games!

 

WUKF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 13TH-16TH JULY, 2023

Competing as part of the SKU, Saltire had a hugely successful event and are very proud to announce we several World Champions!  Massive congratulations to Saltire members Alicia, Eve, Jenna, Lucy & Niamh and Saltire West members, Calum, Craig, David & Kenzie who are World Champions.  We also had silver & bronze medals in individual and team events from Calum, Craig, Rory, Aidan & Owen!  The level of competition was outstanding with entries from 31 countries across the globe, it was a a fantastic four days.  For those who didn't medal, keep training hard and your time will come, there is no doubt.

SCHOOL AWARDS

Great to see some of our members being recognised by their schools for their achievments in sport over the last year.  Well done Jenna on winning the Sports Ambassador Award, Congratulations to Lucy on winning the Sports Personality of the Year Award and well done to Eve for being awarded a prize for her achievements in Karate over the last year  Congratulation to you all.

BELT TEST SUCCESS - 15TH JUNE 2023

Congratulations to Eva Lindsay on passing her Shodan.  Seven years of hard work to get to this point on her karate journey - fantastic exam.  Picture below with Eva and her instructors and fellow black belts.

LOCH NESS CYCLE - 10TH JUNE 2023

Congratulations to Sensei David, Niamh & Lucy who cycled 65 miles around Loch Ness in the blazing heat!  Fantastic effort from you all 

KKO OPEN SUCCESS - 21st MAY 2023

Congratulations to SKU members Niamh, Sarah, Lucy, Eve and Max who competed at this event in Leeds and won 4 gold and 3 silver medals between them.  Fantastic effort from you all!

SALTIRE KARATE FIGHT NIGHT - 12th MAY 2023

UKF OPEN - BURNFOOT, NORTHERN IRELAND, 6.5.23

Congratulations to all who travelled by bus, car, boat & plane to compete at the 15th UKF Invitational Open.  Some excellent performances from the team.  Many medals were won!  Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Alicia & Craig who were injured.

WUKF SCOTTISH OPEN, REGIONAL PERFORMANCE CENTRE, 30.4.23

Congratulations to all who competed at the WUKF Scottish Open.  Huge success across all age groups with 10 Scottish Champions!

SENSEI NIAMH SUCCESS

 

Huge congratulations to Sensei Niamh who won 4 gold medals at the BASK Open in London on Sunday 16th April.  Individual Sanbon, Individual Ippon, Team rotation & Team Champion!   Hard work pays off!  A fantastic role model for our younger members.

TKA COMPETITION

 

Saltire were delighted to be invited to take part in the TKA Development Competition in Dunfermline on Sunday 5th March.  We had a great day and a big thanks to Gordon Mathie for the invitation.  Picture shows some of our younger members who took part with Sensei Niamh and Sensei Kevin.

SQUAD TRAINING

 

Fantastic squad training in Dundee recently.  Great effort from everyone as we prepare for the World Championships & team selection.  Next session will be on Saturday 18th March 1000-1200 hours in Irvine (venue tbc) 

 

WUKF GB OPEN

 

Saltire travelled as part of the Scottish Karate Union to Crawley, London to compete in the inaugural WUKF GB Open Championships on Saturday 11th February.  There was high quality level athletes at this event and we are delighted to have the following WUKF GB Champions; David Carter, Ashley Carter, Kenzie Stewart & Niamh Conway. 

There were also medals in team fighting for Andrew Liddell & Sarah Brand.

Total medal haul; 6 Gold, 5 Silver & 4 Bronze!

David Carter was recognised at this event for his achievements and contribution to WUKF competition over the years.  8 times individual World  Ippon Champion & countless European and team titles.  We are very proud to have you as a role model to our younger members.  

 

Great fighting from everyone but a special mention to Owen Baird who was in a group of over 50 competitiors, won his first 2 fights and then was narrowly beaten in the 3rd.  Keep training hard and your day will come.

 

We wish our members Craig McDonald & Andrew Cater a speedy recovery after having to withdraw through injury.

 

 

EKA OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Well done to all our members who competed at this event on 29th January in Leigh, Greater Manchester.  Congratulations to our medalists; Niamh, David, Finn, Rory & Eesha.

WUKF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, FLORENCE, ITALY 3.11.22-6.11.22

Saltire travelled as part of the Scottish Karate Union to compete at the WUKF European Championships in Florence, Italy.  

 

David Carter - European Champion Mens Ippon, another gold to add to the collection. Quite a legacy!

 

Kenzie Stewart - European Champion Ippon 16-17 years, first gold at a European and we are sure it won't be the last!

 

Sensei Niamh Conway - Bronze medalist in individual Sanbon & silver in team.  Well done!

 

Sensei David Simpson, Lucy Stoves & Eve McNaughton competed to a high standard but no medals this time. You will come back stronger!

March 18/19th Saltire Karate club took part in the British Shotokan Karate Open in london at the weekend. We had 11 members taking part winning 13 trophies between them. Well done to you all

Saltire Karate Club Statement

After a very positive committee meeting, it has been decided that for the whole of November, our Monday 5.30-6.30pm beginner’s class will be free of charge to anyone wishing to come along and give karate a go. We take junior members from age 5.  We at Saltire Karate Club pride ourselves in bringing the best out of our members both physically and mentally, ensuring a very safe and friendly environment in which to train and develop.

Saltire Karate Club Fees;

Annual membership: £20.00.  This also covers all relevant insurance

Lessons:  £3.00. Pay as you go for all classes

Last Saturday of every month: £3.00.  We have our squad training class (for anyone who wishes to compete regularly)

Grading :£10.00 per member. Twice a year summer and winter.

Saltire Karate club is also delighted to announce that we have secured funding to help our members with travel costs to competitions and seminaries. From now, any member competing in Scotland, regardless of how many events, will have their travel expenses covered. When the club is competing nationally or internationally each member will be given a donation by the club to reduce costs.

For our members who do not compete, we are not forgetting about you. Next year you will be given the opportunity to go white-water rafting. As in previous years this has been a very popular team- building exercise.

Great start to the new year. We had 12 members competing in Castlepark on saturday, the first league meeting of the season. Between them they brought home a total of 9 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals. Keep up the good work in class, Well done to you all.

Well done to all members who competed in Kirkintulloch on the 16 march.  We had  10 individual golds, 6 silver and 5 bronze.  We also had 4 team events, winning gold in one silver in one and bronze in two fighting events. The squad that day, David, Ben, Jamie, Jack, Ruth, Sam, Niamh, Sanskriti, Anukriti, Liam, Andrew, Amy, Cameron, Sam, and Logan

Well Done to all the members who competed in Sheffield on the 26th February. David, Amy, Anu, Sanskriti, Ben, Jamie, Sam and Cameron. One Gold, One Silver and Five Bronze medals in what was a very high standard event.

Well done to 12members who competed in Irvine. A total of 8 Gold 9 Silver and one Bronze medal were won.  This was a very good start to the season, and hopefully a sign of things to come.  Keep up the good work

The pictures below were taken during the 2012 junior and cadet world champioships in Serbia.  we had six members of Saltire Karate Club in the Scotland squad, a very proud moment for you all.  Highlight of the week was the gold winners Halyey Jen and Ashley.  Hayley Is Saltire Karate Clubs first but hopefully not the last world champion.

A huge thank you to everyone who turned up to support our race night last night.   We managed to raise £1200.00 on the night.  This amount exceeded all our expectations.    As Saltire Karate Club continues to compete at local, national and international events this money will go a long way to help with travel costs.  Special thanks go out to the compare for the evening Dave Hamilton who did not charge us for all his time and effort. Thanks also to Chris and Angela for organising prizes and race sponsors The Senior ladies Karen, Elaine, Daria and Helen for doing all the catering.  Thank also goes out to everyone who donated a prize for the raffle

David Simpson achieved gold in individual kumite, gold in boys team kumite and gold in mixed team kumite.  Sam Cameron received gold in boys team kumite and silver in individual kumite.  Ben Dunmore  received gold in boys team kumite, gold in mixed team kumite and bronze in individual kumite.  Hayley Hart received gold in Girls 13-15 kumite.Well done Hayley two years in a row.  Also thank you to Eilidh from Glasgow who made up the mixed team kumite that won gold.
